The Green Storm War was a conflict between the Traktionstadtsgesellchaft and The Green Storm, a radical splinter cell of the Anti-Traction League which had been taken over by the Stalker Fang and made into a totalitarian dictatorship.

Beginning[]

The war began on a unspecified date with the Green Storm launching a massive offensive on the traction cities using the recently rediscovered technology of Stalker creation to aid in their attacks. The Green Storm's sudden aggression took the Traction Cities by surprise, with many cities being destroyed in the initial offensive - the rest were driven across the Hunting Ground by the Storm, with any who did not flee fast enough being destroyed.

Led by the Burgomeister of Traktionstadt-Weimar, Tractionists formed the Traktionstadtsgesellschaft, an alliance of eight German cities (with more joining later) in a unified effort to fight back against the Storm. A stalemate resulted for several years afterwards; Oenone Zero noted that the Traction Cities would occasionally push eastward and devour static settlements and fortresses, while the Storm would occasionally push west and destroy a few more cities.

The Turning Point and Peace[]

The Battle of Brighton was a turning point in the war, with the Green Storm finally locating the Tin Book of Anchorage aboard Brighton. The codes for the orbital super-weapon ODIN were contained within, which the Stalker Fang intended to use to end the war; the majority of the Storm's officers did not know this, with General Naga privately expressing dislike of their orders to attack Brighton.

The Green Storm took heavy casualties due to the Stalker Fang's focus on Brighton, losing two Air-Destroyers and an unknown number of Airships. Despite losses, the Tin Book was retrieved and memorised by the Stalker Fang; her assassination by Shrike, however, prevented her from using ODIN to end the war. Following her death, General Naga assumed command of the Green Storm.

Naga swiftly reversed the advance of the Traktionstadtsgesellschaft into the Storm's territories, and drove off a number of Slavic towns attacking the Storm's borders. This was followed by a peace treaty being brokered between the two, with the Great Hunting Ground effectively divided into two - one half claimed by the Storm, one half by the cities, with a no-man's-land between the two.

This peace would last for several months, despite the efforts of Green Storm hardliners to assassinate Oenone Zero and frame the Tractionists.

The War Restarts[]

The peace was eventually broken at the instigation of Adlai Browne, Lord Mayor of Manchester; during a speech to his Traktionstadtsgesellschaft allies, he claimed that Oenone Zero's death and Naga's subsequent mourning made the Storm an easy target, and that they could 'hammer out a menu' of the Green Storm's territories should they attack. Despite the efforts of Kriegsmarshal Von Kobold, an agreement was made to restart the war; Von Kobold noted that Browne's actions were likely motivated by a desire to see the profitable trade of weapons between cities continued.

Shortly after this, the Traktionstadtsgesellschaft launched their attack on the Green Storm. Panzerstadt-Winterthur was lost early in the war, while Darmstadt and the Dortmund Conurbation were both bogged down in the Rustwater Marshes; despite these losses, any resistance was easily overcome by the cities. Manchester itself joined the fight halfway through, attacking the static fortress of Forward Commond.

The advance, however, violently stalled when ODIN was fired. Almost all of the cities and Harvester-Suburbs were destroyed, with Manchester among the casualties. Murnau, one of the few surviving cities, retreated with the remnants of the Traktionstadtsgesellschaft; at the same time, Batmunkh Tsaka and Tienjing were struck and destroyed by ODIN, sending both sides into disarray.

The final battle of the Green Storm War would take place in the ruins of London, with several airships attempting to defeat the Harvester-Suburb of Harrowbarrow. Through the sacrifice of General Naga, the Harvester-Suburb would be destroyed, marking the effective end of the Green Storm War's battles.

Aftermath[]

Lady Oenone Naga, now the leader of the Green Storm, brokered a peace treaty between the Traktionstadtsgesellschaft and the reformed Anti-Traction League; several cities, most notably Murnau, would go static in the face of dwindling prey and the approaching collapse of the Municipal Darwinism system. The attacks by ODIN were ultimately decided to be the result of a malfunctioning Old-Tech weapon, firing at random, in order to conceal the Stalker Fang's involvement.
