Lavinia "Hilly" Torpenhow[4] is a female human who was introduced in Thunder City.

Prior to Strega's takeover, she was a schoolteacher in Thorbury.[1] After its recapture, she adventured with Tamzin Pook, Max Angmering, Oddington Doom, the Revenant Vespertine, and Small Cat across the Traction Era.[6]

Torpenhow was fifty-seven-years-old,[1] and bony with lines in her face.[7]

Torpenhow was mentioned to be determined to put Max Angmering back into Thorbury's leadership.[8]

By the end of Thunder City, it is hinted that she has fallen in love with him.[9] However, after nursing him back to health in the aftermath of reclaiming Thorbury, it is unknown if she still retains these feelings.[7]

  • "Lavinia" is the name of a princess who is the ancestor of the Roman people in Roman mythology.[10] "Torpenhow" is a hill near Cumbria, England.[11] It is also the name of a village in the aforementioned English county.[12]
