India

A map from India in the world of Mortal Engines.

India is a country and subcontinent south of the Himalayas and Shan Guo: the center of the Anti-Traction League in Asia. The southern parts of India were dominated by several traction cities including Chindanagara, Gutak and Juggernautpur. The northern uplands were home to Anti-Tractionist static settlements. It was little harmed in the Black Centuries, save for Rama's Bridge being elevated above sea level. Once, the country was crossed by lava plains, opened during the Sixty Minute War, which made good paths during monsoons. Eventually, the rail system was realised again, trains travelling between armored forts used as stations. It was short-lived, however, as the rails led emerging traction cities to eat the stations, and even the rails, leaving the trains and remaining stations as isolated statics. These eventually grew into said traction cities when another traction boom happened.

Far later on, future Northern Air-Fleet wing commander Sathya came from southern India.[1]
