Popjoy was a male human who was introduced in Predator's Gold. He is an Engineer from London.

He was killed by the Stalker Fang, who located him to repair her but later murdered him so he could not reveal that he was still alive.[1]

Description[]

Popjoy was a small, bald old man.[3][1] He had a small red wheel tattooed on his forehead, between his eyes.[3] At Rogue's Roost, he wore a transparent, plastic coat over a white uniform.[3]

History[]

Mortal Engines quartet[]

Mortal Engines[]

Popjoy was one of the Engineers who rebuilt MEDUSA.

When Shrike came to Crome to help him find Hester Shaw, he allowed himself to be examined by the Engineers so they could learn how to make Stalkers. One of these Engineers was Popjoy.

Predator's Gold[]

Popjoy survived MEDUSA and was taken in by the Anti-Traction League and later the Green Storm. When Green Storm took over the Anti-Traction League, they were much less scared of using technology. In exchange for his life, Popjoy showed them how to make Stalkers, founding the Resurrection Corps and becoming an important member of the Storm.

Using the knowledge he had, Popjoy developed new Stalkers at Rogue's Roost (though Shrike remarked that the London stalkers were inferior to himself and less intelligent).

He was first seen, unnamed, when Hester had been drugged and taken to the Roost by Widgery Blinkoe, on orders of Sathya Kuranath, after she had betrayed Anchorage to Arkangel to win Tom Natsworthy back. He was hurrying Green Storm soldiers with the Stalker prototypes he made to various locations, urging them to be careful.

He later appeared showing Sathya and Hester his experimental Stalkers - one of them in progress was Blinkoe himself.

Infernal Devices[]

Popjoy greeted Shrike and Oenone Zero at Forward Command before taking off for Shan Guo.

A Darkling Plain[]

The Stalker Fang and Fishcake head to Popjoy's villa to repair the Stalker.
