- Christian Rivers had admitted that Tom's personality in the film was largely influenced by him letting Sheehan play around with the character.[1]
- Most people refer to him as "Robbie" or "Rob".[2][1][3][4]
- Sheehan had to get fit to portray Natsworthy as there was a lot of action going on in the film.[2]
- Philip Reeve has mentioned that he didn't mind Sheehan portraying Tom, as long as he stuck true to some essence of the books' character.[4]
- Sheehan thinks that Tom is directly based on Reeve. Reeve has mentioned that Tom is supposed to be an everyday man, yet many of his reactions in the books are Reeve's reactions to the character's situations.[4]
