Description[]

Both children have ochre skin, brown eyes, and dusty black hair. One was a boy, the other was a girl.[10]

A Darkling Plain[]

These children were the first humans to interact with Shrike after the Traction Era. The girl weaves a blue flower crown for the Stalker and gives fat at lube for his joints; while the boy fled and cautiously returned. They then take him to a village that has been established in Erdene Shan.

When Shrike tells the villagers that he is a "Remembering Machine", the girl asks him to tell the village his stories. The Stalker takes the girl in his lap and begins telling the story of Mortal Engines.

These humans lived in a Erdene Shan village after the Traction Era. They were introduced in A Darkling Plain.

Description[]

These people are simple, like stories, and wield simple farm tools and the power of magnetic levitation.[10]

These people were encountered by Shrike after he woke himself from his stupor to watch Tom and Hester's corpses return to nature.

This breed of cattle that belongs to Sathya Kuranath was introduced in A Darkling Plain.

Description[]

The cattle have black ears, pink tongues, and snow on their backs. They produce a white, frothy milk.[11]

This dog is an unknown breed of dog who was introduced in A Darkling Plain is the pet of Sathya Kuranath.[11]

This sky merchant was a male human who was introduced in A Darkling Plain. He made sure that Wren and Theo could stock up at Airhaven when they became traders.[5]

Theo's Overseers are a group of humans who oversaw the work Theo and other humans did in the engine district of Cutler's Gulp.

They were killed by Hester Natsworthy while rescuing Theo.[2]

Theo's parents are humans who were introduced in A Darkling Plain.[12]

Theo's parents are mentioned to be sweet and welcoming, like the rest of their family.[5]

They were later mentioned in Wren's letter to Angie at the end of the novel.

Varley's wife was a female human who was introduced in A Darkling Plain. She originated from Red Deer Island, an island close to Oak Island.[13]

Varley's wife has red hair and a doughy face. She has bruises on her face from when Varley beats her.[14]

Varley's wife was mentioned when Varley was at Cutler's Gulp, wanting to buy Lady Naga from Grandma Gravy.

She later gave Oenone food when the Humbug landed in Airhaven.

When Hester Natsworthy went to Varley with Pennyroyal's money to buy Oenone, she was seen holding Varley Jr. in her arms. After the baby accidentally spills one of Shaw's bags on the floor, revealing that she doesn't have the money to buy Lady Naga, Varley's wife shoots her husband before he can kill Hester.

The inhabitants were seen evacuating their section of the city when MEDUSA was fired onto them. They were also seen at the end of the film, allowing the survivors of London to become refugees.

These people inhabit the city of London.

They were portrayed by unknown actors, mainly people who work at Weta Digital and are relatives of the cast and crew of the film. Two of them are known - Michael Bennet and Hera Hilmar's mother.[15]

These people were seen throughout the film as onlookers and bystanders.

These people were the Navigators of London. They were murdered by Jasper Pewsey and Silas Gench upon orders from Thaddeus Valentine to ensure that London broke the Shield-Wall.

The Navigators oversaw the hunt between London and Salzhaken at the beginning of the film.

When Valentine finished constructing MEDUSA (by Engineers raiding Tom's office for parts), the Navigators pushed in the coordinates for Batmunkh Gompa.

After Hester Shaw used her mother's crash drive to shut down MEDUSA, the Navigators were soon murdered by Pewsey and Gench (per Valentine's orders).

Katherine Valentine discovers their corpses when she heard the gunshots from the Wheelhouse.

Pomeroy's boss was a human who was mentioned in Mortal Engines.

Shaw boards Salzhaken as London approaches a trading cluster. While the rest of the traction cities escape quickly, Salzhaken is slow to start up again.

Salzhaken then tries to escape London, throwing its entire salt supply overboard to gain speed, but a gigantic track mark stops them. London then shoots harpoons of some sort, dragging the city into its jaws.

The processing of Salzhaken's inhabitants is seen as Shaw attempts to murder Thaddeus in revenge for her mother.

These captives of Scuttlebug were introduced in Mortal Engines. They were attempted to be pawned off as slaves before Anna Fang rescued Tom Natsworthy and Hester Shaw.

They were portrayed by unknown actors.

This man was a resident of Shan Guo who was introduced in Mortal Engines. He was present when Shan Guo launched its airfleet to strike London first.

He was portrayed by Philip Reeve, as his cameo in the film.
